How will this course be delivered?

This is a 3 hour workshop delivered every week for 5 weeks at Blossomfield Campus. Taught by a professional baker who has run his own bakery business.

No formal qulaifications

This course will be informally assessed by the tutor also by the student's self-assessment and evaluation.

Chef

Chefs plan menus and prepare, or oversee the preparation of food in hotels, restaurants, clubs, private households and other establishments.

What’s Involved?

Chefs requisite or purchase and examine foodstuffs from suppliers to ensure quality. They plan menus, prepare, season and cook foodstuffs or oversee their preparation and monitor the quality of finished dishes. They also supervise, organise and instruct kitchen staff and manage the whole kitchen or an area of the kitchen. They ensure relevant hygiene and health and safety standards are maintained within the kitchen. They plan and co-ordinate kitchen work such as fetching, clearing and cleaning of equipment and utensils.

Baker

Bakers and flour confectioners prepare and bake dough, pastry and cake mixtures and make and finish flour confectionary products by hand.

What’s Involved?

A Baker weighs ingredients according to recipe. They mix ingredients using hand or machine to obtain the required consistency. They roll and cut pastry, stretch, knead and mould dough to form bread, rolls and buns. They fill and glaze pastry, mix ingredients for cakes. They also bake bread, pastry and cakes. They make cake decorations, spread icing, fillings and toppings on products.
