What will I study?

Our 12-week Get into Floristry course is designed for anyone wanting to develop professional floristry techniques while gaining the confidence to run their own creative business. Taught through hands-on sessions and real industry experiences, the course culminates in the creation of floral installations for a public event at the Civic Centre.

Participants will learn how to design stunning arrangements, work to a client brief, source seasonal flowers, and price and market their services. Each week introduces new technical skills-from hand-tied bouquets and centrepieces to large event displays-alongside essential business knowledge such as branding, costing, sustainability, and client communication.

Whether you're looking to start your own floristry business, upskill for a creative career, or simply develop your passion, this course offers an inspiring blend of creativity, practical experience, and real-world learning.

How will this course be delivered?

Sessions take place on Friday afternoons at Woodlands Campus, with three additional morning trips to flower markets, suppliers, and industry venues, giving learners valuable insight into the world of professional floristry. The final session will be at the civic centre in Solihull to deliver and arrange the flowers. This will be on the 21st April.

What are the entry requirements?

You need to be aged 19+ and a resident in Solihull. Priority is given to Solihull residents living in Chelmsley Wood, Kingshurst, Fordbridge or Smiths Wood.

Florist

Florists sell flowers and related products in a wholesale or retail business, and design and make up floral bouquets, wreaths, tributes and other floral arrangements for sale to the public.

What’s Involved?

Florists order and purchase fresh flowers, foliage and other floristry items such as ribbons, wire, cards, artificial flowers etc. from wholesalers or growers. They display and care for flowers, plants and ready-made floral arrangements in selling premises. They also design and make up wreaths, bouquets, posies, corsages, headdresses and button holes using appropriate flowers, foliage, frame and trimmings. They confer with and advise customers regarding their design requirements and arrange for the delivery of floral arrangements as requested by the customer. They decorate buildings, halls, churches or other facilities for parties, weddings, etc. They sell flowers, plants, foliage etc. to the public and perform retail duties such as keeping accounts.
