Where will this course lead?

The APM Project Management Qualification is a qualification aimed at project professionals who are looking to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of all key areas of project management.

The qualification is intended to help you achieve knowledge and understanding of all areas of project management that will support you when you are involved in projects from individual assignments through to large capital projects. You'll learn how project management elements interact and how projects fit into a strategic and commercial environment.

Candidates are most likely working in a project environment with 2-3 years of experience as a project professional or be actively undertaking a project management degree. This qualification is perfect if you are aiming to advance your career, enhance your employability, and gain a broad understanding of project management without focusing on a specific methodology.

What will I study?

The syllabus assesses breadth of knowledge in all areas of project management and covers knowledge areas from the APM Competence Framework including topic areas:

  • Governance
  • Life cycles
  • Stakeholder engagement and communication
  • Quality management
  • Risk and issue management
  • Ethics, compliance and professionalism
  • Transition Management
  • Sustainability
  • ...and much more.

This will culminate with a 2.5hour exam in the college.

What qualifications will I get?

Given the relevant experience and exposure to a project environment learners can expect to gain a Level 4 qualification in Project Management which is highly recognised throughout industry and lead to Chartered status. It provides:

How will I be assessed?

The APM Project Management Qualification is assessed through a 2.5hour online exam. The exam includes 40 questions worth a total of 90 marks, covering all learning objectives in the syllabus. The question types include:

· Multiple response (20 questions worth 1 mark each)

· Select from list (5 questions worth 2 marks each)

· Short response (5 questions worth 2 marks each)

· Long response (10 questions worth 5 marks each)

There is an optional break of up to 30 minutes between the two parts of the exam.

How do I get a place on the course?

Applicants are invited to send their current CV via email to adult.skills@solihull.ac.uk and then fill in an application form. Places are offered by telephone interview only.

What are the entry requirements?

Whilst there are no formal entry requirements you should be able to be able to complete the exam in English (this would assume some developed skills in written communication and mathematics and the ability to access appropriate information within your organisation).

The qualification is aimed at those who have approx. 2-3 years of experience as a project professional or those undertaking a project management degree or apprenticeship. A PRINCE 2 qualification is not essential but maybe beneficial,

  • Have a high interest in project management.
  • Have experience or work in a project setting and wishing to progress.
  • Have people management experience.
  • Have experience with projects or project development.

This course offers a versatile learning environment that caters to a broad range of applicants with varying levels of experience and career objectives.
