This course will lead to the achievement of Level 5 HR Consultant/Partner Apprenticeship, the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) Certificate in Human Resource Management and Associate membership of the CIPD. On completion, the apprentice may choose to continue their studies with the chartered body to achieve further qualifications and ultimately chartered membership of the CIPD.
Whilst completing the Intermediate Certificate in HR Management You will study six modules, covering a wide range of HR topics:
- Business issues and the contexts of human resources;
- Developing professional Practice;
- Using information in human resources;
- Resourcing and talent management;
- Employment law;
- Contemporary developments in employment relations.
In addition you will develop skills in the following areas: HR Consultancy; Providing support and advice; Contributing to Business change; Building HR capability; HR Information Analysis; Personal Development; Relationship management
The course also aims to develop behaviours such as flexibility and resilience.
The course is delivered through a combination of classroom teaching, practical workshops, directed study and independent learning/self- study.
Typically the apprentice will attend college for one day a week. This will include 4 hours of taught sessions every week as part of the Intermediate certificate in HR Management (for ten months) and a further 3.5 hours per week including a mix of learning support and time spent writing assessments/assignments.
As an apprentice a significant amount of learning takes place 'on the job' through training and the practical application of your skills, knowledge and behaviours. The apprentice will receive 1:1 support and coaching from an allocated coach who may visit the workplace every six to eight weeks.
It is expected that the duration of the apprenticeship will vary from 2 to 3 years.
Upon successful completion of the end point assessment the apprentice will be awarded the Level 5 HR Consultant/Partner Apprenticeship and the CIPD Certificate in HR Management.
Progress and development will be assessed at regular stages throughout the apprenticeship - this is likely to be a combination of assignments, activities, reflective discussions and observations in the workplace.
The CIPD Intermediate Certificate in HR Management is assessed through a series of six written assignments.
The decision as to when the apprentice is ready to move on to the End Point Assessment will be made by the Line Manager and the Training Provider based on their monitoring of apprentices' progress. The Employer will make the final decision as to whether the apprentice meets or is close to meeting the requirements of the standard and is therefore ready to move on to End Point Assessment. The employer and training provider will formally sign-off individual readiness for the end point assessment. This is when the apprentice has met and can confidently apply the minimum requirements of skills, knowledge and behaviours as detailed in the apprenticeship standard and successfully completed the CIPD Intermediate Certificate in HR Management.
The End Point Assessment contains two components:
- A Consultative Project which contains a range of evidence demonstrating that the apprentice has met the requirements of specific Knowledge and Skills
- A Professional Discussion that will explore the specific Skills and Behaviours set out in the apprenticeship standard

The apprentice will meet the requirements of the occupational profile. This role could be called an HR Consultant or an HR Business Partner in different organisations. Individuals in this role will use their HR expertise to provide and lead the delivery of HR solutions to business challenges, together with tailored advice to the business in a number of HR areas, typically to mid-level and senior managers.
They could be in a generalist role, where they provide support across a range of HR areas - likely to be the Core HR option; or a specialist role, where they focus on and have in depth expertise in a specific area of HR - likely to be Resourcing, Total Reward, Organisation Development, or HR Operations. Whichever of these is chosen, they will have a good grounding across the whole range of HR disciplines as this is contained in both of the qualification options included in this standard. They will often be required to make decisions and recommendations on what the business can/should do in a specific situation. They will be influencing managers to change their thinking as well as bringing best practice into the organisation. They are also likely to lead the people related elements of business or HR projects. Whatever their role, they will need to link the work they do to the context and priorities of the business. In a larger organisation they may be one of a team supporting the business and they may also have responsibility for managing people.
The apprentice will also have CIPD Foundation Certificate in HR Practice (or CIPD Certificate in Personnel Practice) or CIPD Foundation Certificate in L+D Practice (or CIPD Certificate in Training Practice) or three A levels (or equivalent, for example, BTEC level 3 Extended Diploma).
CIPD also requires all candidates completing CIPD qualifications to undertake an interview with a CIPD course tutor to determine their suitability for the CIPD qualification which forms part of the apprenticeship.

Is there anything else I will have to pay for in order to enrol an apprentice?
In order to study the CIPD Intermediate Certificate in HRM it will be necessary to join CIPD as a student member and pay the relevant fee at the time of joining.
