This AAT level 4 apprenticeship course will lead to the achievement of Level 4 Professional Accounting Technician Apprenticeship. If  all of the individual unit AAT exams are also taken and passed, the apprentice will also gain the Professional Diploma in Accounting, this coupled with the required work place experience will enable the apprentice to gain the letters MAAT after their name. The many transferable skills that will be developed during this course provide a superb foundation for many career pathways in accounting such as Assistant Management  Accountant, Assistant Financial  Accountant, Payroll manager, Senior Bookkeeper, Senior Financial Officer.
On completion, the apprentice may choose to continue to chartered bodies qualifications such as ACCA or CIMA.
Â
The apprentice will be required to study the knowledge, skills and behaviours which are essential for an Accounting Technician.Â

- Management Accounting: Budgeting
- Management Accounting: Decision and Control
- Accounting Systems and Controls
If the apprentice wants to gain the Professional Diploma in Accounting, two optional units are also needed. Options include personal tax, business tax, credit management or cash and treasury management (classes run subject to numbers).

Â
The AAT level 4 apprenticeship?? is delivered through a combination of classroom teaching, practical workshops, directed study and independent learning/self- study.
Typically the apprentice will attend college for 7 hours every week (for twelve months) and a further 7 hours per week carrying out independent study. Â If the apprentice wants to complete the full Professional Diploma in accounting there will be a further 12 weeks of 6 hours per week to complete the option units.Â
As an apprentice a significant amount of learning takes place 'on the job' through training and the practical application of your skills, knowledge and behaviours.Â
Â
The apprentice will receive 1:1 support and coaching from an allocated coach who may visit the workplace every six to eight weeks. Â You will be required to build a detailed portfolio in which you provide practical evidence from your job role to demonstrate that you have developed the required knowledge, skills and behaviours.
It is expected that the duration of the AATÂ level 4 apprenticeship?? will vary from 15 to 24 months.Â
Upon successful completion of the end point assessment the apprentice  will be awarded the Level 4 Professional Accounting Technician Apprenticeship. If the all of the individual unit AAT exams are passed, the apprentice will also gain the Professional Diploma in Accounting.
Progress and development will be assessed at regular stages throughout the apprenticeship - this is likely to be a combination of assignments, activities, exams, reflective discussions and observations in the workplace.Â
The employer and training provider will formally sign-off individual readiness for the end point assessment. This is when the apprentice has met and can confidently apply the minimum requirements of skills, knowledge and behaviours as detailed in the apprenticeship standard.
The end point assessment consists of the following 2 components and can be taken after 12 months of on-programme learning.Â
