What Is An HNC Course?
HNC stands for Higher National Certificate. It is a BTEC qualification awarded by Edexcel that is structured as a practical-based course to prepare you for work upon completion or continue studying at a degree level.
What Level Is A HNC Qualification?
An HNC qualification is a level 4 qualification that takes one year to complete or two to four years part-time and is made up of 12-15 credits. Most HNCs can take you directly onto the second year of a full honour’s degree.
What Is A HNC Equivalent To?
An HNC is the equivalent of completing your first year at university or a Certificate of Higher Education which then enables you to go on to enter a bachelor’s degree in year 2 or complete a HND.

Throughout your HNC course you will be assessed through numerous practical tasks, written assignments and projects all designed to test your knowledge and demonstrate the skills you have learnt throughout the course as the course focusses more on practical aspects rather than theory, preparing students for their careers over a short period of time.

To apply for HNC courses you will need to have achieved at least 4 GCSE’s C or above and one A level.
