Beauty students showcase skills in work experience
Tuesday, 21 February, 2017

Beauty students at Solihull College & University Centre had the chance to impress recently whilst completing a work experience placement at Spa specialists Ragdale Hall in Leicestershire.

Over the last few years the College has built a successful partnership with the Spa and within the last year was awarded with Ragdale Hall’s ‘College of Excellence’ status.

Many students at the College have been fortunate enough to complete work experience at Ragdale Hall, getting to grips with the industry with many impressing so much that they have received full-time job offers upon completion of their work experience.

The spa visits students at the College’s campuses in Solihull and Smith’s Wood at the beginning of each academic year. The spa talks to the students about working for them and the experience they could gain whilst doing so, allowing students to then register their interest.

Those who wish to complete work experience at the company are asked to take part in a trade test which this year included filing and painting nails as well as a mini-facial. Students Morgan Purcell-Farquharson and Megan Harold were the talented two who impressed Ragdale Hall this year and managed to secure work experience opportunity.

Megan, who is a level 3 student, commented “We had learnt how to do all of what was involved in the trade test at level 2 so we were well prepared to complete the tasks.”

The students completed a week long work experience placement at Ragdale Hall and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Morgan commented “It showed us what it’s like in a real life spa and gave us a good insight into the industry.”

Megan and Morgan were able to complete a number of different jobs and shadowed existing staff at the spa. The students worked with products such as Elemis which they already have a wealth of experience using. Whilst studying at the College the beauty students use a range of professional products, including Elemis, which puts them ahead of the game as they look for employment.

Both Megan and Morgan impressed throughout their work experience and were encouraged to apply for jobs at the spa.
