Solihull College & University Centre will be offering an individual athlete package to its sports students starting their level 3 qualifications this September.
This scheme is aimed at high level athletes that compete in individual sports. Individual athletes at the College will have the opportunity to receive field based and lab based testing in addition to strength and conditioning support from students at the College who are studying towards their BSc in Applied Sports Science. Not only will this allow individual athletes at the College to benefit from expert advice to assist them in progressing within their chosen field, but it also gives university level students the opportunities to work with athletes for extended periods of time for the Integrated Training Approaches and Applied Sports Science module of their BSc.
In addition to this, Sport and Exercise Science HND students will conduct a dietary analysis for their athlete as well a Psychological Motivation session.
Athletes looking to begin their course in September at the College will have a fantastic opportunity to work with a dedicated sports science support team to help them to better themselves as an athlete and assist them to succeed in their sporting career. University level students will be able to take full advantage of the partnership between the further and higher education provisions at the College which will allow them to secure placements and experience on-site at the College.
Students who wish to take advantage of the individual athlete package will also receive a number of other great benefits including access to a range of College facilities including free gym membership, access under supervision to ice bath, sauna and steam room as well as physiotherapy advice and guidance. Students who are interested must show a commitment to the scheme and have good attendance and punctuality on their course.
Philip Trilloe, Head of School for Sport at the College, commented “The individual athlete scheme is a unique opportunity for students who wish to join the College to combine academic and sporting excellence.
