It’s been a year to remember for Foundation Learning students at Solihull College & University Centre, who have taken their learning beyond the classroom and into the heart of the Midlands with a series of enriching and educational day trips.
Throughout the academic year, students have explored some of the region’s most historic and culturally significant locations, enhancing their classroom experiences with real-world learning.

Exploring the historic streets of Warwick
Their travels began with a visit to the charming town of Warwick, followed by a captivating journey through time at Warwick Castle. Students then visited the National Space Centre in Leicester, discovering the wonders of science and space exploration. A trip to the James Herbert Museum in Coventry offered a unique insight into the local literary legacy, and the year was rounded off with a memorable final visit to the Black Country Living Museum in Dudley, where students stepped back into the industrial past of the West Midlands.
Each trip has been carefully designed to support students’ personal, social, and academic development, helping them build confidence, engage with their community, and experience learning in exciting new ways.
Our Foundation Learning students and staff made unforgettable memories together this year
Community and Foundation Lecturer, Andy Smith, commented: “It encouraged students’ independence skills, teamwork activities, knowledge of local history and social culture, camaraderie and above all; how much fun it can be as a student of this college.”
These experiences are a vital part of the Foundation Learning curriculum, helping students grow as individuals while forming lasting friendships and memories.
