Proven success with unemployed courses
Wednesday, 5 August, 2015

Solihull College who works with Job Centre Plus to provide courses for the unemployed has proven the success of their partnership.

Recently many individuals completed a 6 week painting and decorating course of which some students secured employment before the course completed and others are hoping to mirror this success as well as go on to further their skills by completing another construction course in September at Solihull College.

Kevin Byrne, construction co-ordinator at Solihull College stated “These learners have worked very hard to achieve painting and decorating skills over the duration of the 6 week course. We have all been very impressed with each learner’s enthusiasm and work ethic to achieve hard earned credible world recognised trade City and Guild qualifications.

This entire group have produced some outstanding qualities of practical works in painting and decorating, learning not just practical techniques but also gaining the underpinning knowledge that is required within the trade and the construction environment.”

Solihull College understands that employers require a workforce with not only the vocational skills and knowledge but they also need employees to be equipped with employability skills and through the Work Ready Programme at Solihull College, individuals are given the skills in hope of moving into employment in the near future.

By liaising with employers, Solihull College has designed courses including construction, customer service, hospitality and security amongst others, to promote and teach employability skills to further enhance opportunities for employment for unemployed people.
