A Sport student from Solihull College & University Centre is set to progress to university to study physiotherapy alongside his budding coaching career.
Harrison Hawker, who is in his second year studying Level 3 Sport & Exercise Science, has been running a successful Tennis coaching business for the last few years alongside his studies.
Harrison has always known he has wanted to have a career in sport. He commented: ‘I have played tennis for 14 years and I knew I wanted to work in sports rehab and to help people.”
When he turned 16, Harrison wanted to start earning money, but he didn’t want to work behind a bar or in a shop, he wanted to be outside as much as possible. That’s when he started his tennis coaching business ‘HH Tennis Coaching’: “I really enjoy it. I want to spend my time doing something I love, and I can use some of what I learn at college in my coaching sessions. Learning about things like diet, injury management and human biology have allowed me to help my friends and family.”
On choosing the College after finishing school, he continued: “I didn’t want to study A-Levels – I wanted to put all my energy into studying one subject as I knew what I wanted my future to look like. The content on the course and the facilities at the College made it easy to choose where to study after my GCSEs.”
College Careers Advisor, Jane Findlay, commented: “Harrison is one of the most inspiring students I’ve encountered in Careers. His passion for tennis, combined with his genuine desire to help others succeed, shines through in everything he does. It’s remarkable how he manages to balance so much while still achieving excellent results at college. It comes as no surprise that, when applying for physiotherapy courses, he received offers from all his chosen universities.”
Once Harrison finishes his course in the summer, he is set to study Physiotherapy at the University of Worcester.
Best of luck for the future Harrison!
