Uniformed Protective Services students from Solihull College & University Centre have spent time away from campus recently preparing for the upcoming application process for their chosen uniformed services.
Students spent the day at Go Ape as part of their fitness unit. The students participated in the Tree Top Adventure, as well as axe throwing which challenged their physical fitness, teamwork and mental resilience.
Lecturer Kim Marshall says it was an incredibly useful day: “The students took part in many fitness activities, which are all key components of their course. The trip provided practical experience of activities that tested multiple components of fitness, such as muscular endurance, strength, balance, and coordination. It allowed them to identify strengths and weaknesses in their overall physical fitness.
These insights will help them write SMART goals and design a 6-week personal fitness programme that targets improvements. They can then prepare themselves for the fitness entry tests and job role requirements of their chosen uniformed service.”
These second-year Level 3 students are currently starting the application process for their chosen uniformed services. The overall process can take six months on average, consisting of competency and aptitude tests, medicals/fitness assessments and vetting checks.
