Where will this course lead?

This 50+ Routeway to Employment in Retail Programme is a short-term intensive program aimed at equipping participants with a broader understanding of retail. The duration allows for a thorough exploration of the subject matter and the development of practical skills crucial for success in the retail and customer service and provide a solid basis to apply all the tools to gainful employment.

What will I study?

Provide essential workplace skills in a job-related setting and upskills to improve employability, interview techniques and CV writing. You'll study a range of topics tailored to customer service and hospitality, including:

 

  • Customer service in the retail environment
  • Communication in a business environment
  • Developing working relationships with colleagues and customers
  • Functional skills and understanding own capabilities through self-assessment
  • Academic and digital skills

 

How will this course be delivered?

You will be assessed through a combination of:

 

  • Theory-based tasks to test your understanding of key concepts
  • Practical, scenario-based activities to apply your skills in realistic setting

What are the entry requirements?

To enrol on the course, you should:

 

  • Hold a West Midlands postcode
  • Be aged 19 or above
  • Income below £34,194 or unemployed
  • Aged 50 years old or older

What else do I need to know?

All resources and materials needed for the course will be provided. Attendance and participation in all sessions are mandatory.

What can I do after this course?

After completing the course, you'll have the skills and knowledge to apply for any roles in a variety of businesses which utilise retail, hospitality or customer service. The course may instil confidence and develop necessary skills for a learner to a step into employment in retail.
