Develop your creative skills experiment with different techniques and crafts.  

What will I study?

This is an informal art class, delivered as a workshop.

For term one the following will be included:

Each week we will start with a warm-up exercise for the mind for example breathng through lines using paint and a paintbrush or scribble into drawing using pen and pencil or using the non dominant hand to create an image

Week 1:

Affirmation - Use words associated to what you want to achieve from this course we will then frame these words and decorate the frame using the mosaic technique. We will also look at colour this will be explored more next week

Week 2:

 Your safe place - this can be real or imaginary it can be a beautiful garden or a beach we will look at the Art of collage and mixed media to create this piece.  Before the main activity we will look at colour. Using a circle and slicing it up like a cake each piece write an emotion you have felt this week then choose a colour to represent that emotion. keep this in mind when creating your safe place.

Week 3:

The guided garden visualization - There are four steps to this challenge where you'll be guided through each step to create an image using water colour or Pen and ink then we will discuss it afterwards.

Week 4: 

Creating a strength coil pot using air drying clay we will be using the coil process so each piece of rolled clay you will be thinking about the strengths that you process we can discuss it afterwards. The bowl when finished can be used to place notes inside explaining a difficult situation you are experiencing and the strengths you will need to overcome it or handle it. Or simply use it as a memory bowl.

Week 5 - complete pot from previous week 

Week 6:

Unique family or Friends portraits using pebbles.  Pebble pictures.

Week 7:

Patterns and mandala painting we will also look at monoprinting

Week 8:

White on black paper using some of the techniques learned from previous week. Using white pens pastels paint and pencils.

Week 9 and 10 

Creating a Christmas card design by using some of the techniques you've learned from this course i.e patterns, collage, mosaics, monoprinting white on black paper.

 

How will this course be delivered?

A 2 hour informal workshop once per week at Blossomfild campus. We also have Art for Wellbeing at Stratford campus please see leisure learning on the Stratford college website for alternative course description. 

What qualifications will I get?

This is a personal development course - there is no official qualification gained. 

How will I be assessed?

This course will be informally assessed by the tutor also by the student's self-assessment and evaluation.

What are the entry requirements?

No qualifications or previous experience are needed for this course.

After completing the course you may wish to attend a more intense course in art or simply use this course for your own personal satisfaction.
