The VetSkill VTEC Level 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming has been designed for learners who are currently working within the dog grooming sector, holding either employed or voluntary positions; or for those who are seeking future employment opportunities within the dog grooming sector.
This study programme is aimed at those who wish to develop their theoretical understanding and practical skills to be a Dog Groomer. The qualification covers:
· Grooming, styling and finishing a range of dog breeds with a variety coat types.
· Canine anatomy and physiology, behaviour and welfare.
· Employment routes within the canine grooming sector.
Throughout your studies, you will cover all 8 Units from the following list:
You will be required to attend one day per week (Wednesday) for 34 weeks at the Blossomfield Campus College. The course delivery will consist of both practical and theory sessions.
You will be expected to complete approximately 4 hours of independent study a week to complete this course.
VetSkill VTEC Level 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming
You will be assessed on your practical skills and theory understanding through a synoptic online multiple-choice question test and relevant portfolios of written and practical
evidence. This course is a distinction/pass/fail course, and all elements of the course will need to be successfully achieved for you to gain the qualification.
Learners must have completed the VTEC Level 2 Certificate for Dog Grooming Assistants or the City and Guilds Level 2 Certificate for Dog Grooming Assistants to be eligible for the course.
External applicants who have not previously completed the VTEC Level 2 Certificate for Dog Grooming Assistants at Solihull College and University Centre must provide a qualification certificate and a reference from their dog-grooming trainer or employer.
Learners should be able to evidence English Language and Maths grades at GCSE grade D/3 or above, or through an equivalent qualification.
Funding for the qualification may be available through West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) Flexibilities. Please contact the college directly to enquire about eligibility.
Learners are expected to purchase:
· A copy of 'A Dog Groomer's Guide to canine anatomy, skin, coats, health and first aid' by Julie Harris.
· A dog grooming tunic and trousers.
The tutor will inform you on the first session of any student discounts available.
Monetary contributions for visits or guest speakers may be required.
A basic level of computer proficiency is needed to complete the assessments.
Learners who achieve this qualification could progress into industry in an employed or self-employed role.
