Where will this course lead?

This is a two year course which leads on to higher education, a level 4 apprenticeship, a degree apprenticeship or into employment.

What will I study?

Our Level 3 Computing course will equip students with industry relevant digital skills and knowledge. The qualification may transition to a new technical route (such as the reformed V Level or T Level) as part of national FE reforms.

 

You will study one of the following two options:

 

1.) V Level in Computing & Digital Technologies: These will provide a balanced approach to developing digital expertise, problem-solving, and innovation skills relevant to modern computing and IT careers. Specific details for the Digital and Computing V Level pathway will be confirmed by the Department for Education once finalised.

 

This exciting new qualification is designed to combine academic learning with practical, technical skills, enabling students to develop both their theoretical understanding of computing concepts and their hands on experience with emerging technologies.

Learners will gain a solid grounding in key areas such as:

· Programming and software development

· Networking and cloud computing

· Data management and analytics

· Cyber security and digital ethics

· Systems design and innovation

The V Level aims to produce well-rounded digital professionals who can analyse, design, and implement solutions in a wide range of IT and business environments. It will also support the development of transferable skills such as teamwork, communication, and project management; essential for success in further study or employment.

2.) The T Level in Digital Support Services is a technical qualification for 16-19-year-olds, designed in collaboration with employers to ensure students gain the skills the digital industry needs most. This course blends classroom based study with a substantial industry placement, giving learners valuable real-world experience and insight into professional IT environments.

You will study a mix of core digital principles and specialist areas, such as:

· Digital infrastructure and systems management

· Cyber security and data protection

· IT support and network administration

· Business processes and the legal framework surrounding digital technology

Learning is delivered through a combination of classroom theory, practical projects, and employer-set assignments that mirror real workplace scenarios. Assessment includes written exams, coursework, and a project set by industry partners.

 

How will this course be delivered?

At least 4 days between Monday to Friday at the college studying the V Level in Digital or T Level Digital course

What qualifications will I get?

Level 3 V Level in Digital or Level 3 T Level in Digital

How will I be assessed?

Combination of external examinations and coursework.

How do I get a place on the course?

You can get a place on the course by completing an application form or applying online for an interview. Applicants are invited for an interview with one of the course coordinators

What are the entry requirements?

A Merit or higher at Level 2 OCR Diploma or BTEC extended certificate and English GCSE at grade C/4 or higher and Mathematics GCSE at grade C/4 or higher

or

4 GCSEs at grade 4 (grade C) or higher including English and Mathematics.

What else do I need to know?

During the first year there are no additional costs apart from supplying a pens, pencils and lined A4 paper.
