Where will this course lead?

The Level 2 Diploma in sport is ideal for you if you want take the first steps towards a career in the sport and leisure industry, developing the knowledge and skills from experts in the sector for jobs such a Leisure Assistant or an Assistant Gym Instructor. You will learn about the effects and benefits of exercising and staying active as well as given training in communications and leadership skills.

How will this course be delivered?

Most of the course will take place in the classroom where learners will gain a good theoretical understanding of sport related subjects through a range of enjoyable teaching methods. Other parts of the course will take place in the sports hall or the well equipped college gymnasium, bridging the gap from theory to practical.

What qualifications will I get?

OCR Cambridge Technical Diploma in Sport

Some learners will have the opportunity to complete the Level 2 NCFE Certificate in Fitness Instructing which allows them to become employed within a gym environment. This would be delivered alongside an Extended Certificate in Sport, rather than a Diploma.

How will I be assessed?

To pass this course you will need to complete a variety of assessments such as: Practical assignments, Role plays, Course work & Presentations.

How do I get a place on the course?

Places are offered following a successful interview and a reference.

What are the entry requirements?

2 Grade 3's at GCSE or the equivalent (ideally a 3 in English Language)

What else do I need to know?

Successful applicants will need to purchase college logo kit to be worn during practical lessons. Further payment will also be required to pay for any intended trips and visits. Course Sports kit and text books will be an additional cost (enquire on enrolment) Trips will be organised for the programme and prices are currently under review. Good levels of English and Maths are important for your success in your course, your chosen vocation and life. Throughout your course you will continue to develop your English and Maths skills in your vocational classes.

If you haven't achieved an A*/9 - C/4 grade in English or Maths at GCSE, or a Level 2 Functional Skill, you will also be working towards a qualification in English or Maths at a level that will enable you to progress towards these grades. If you have a Learning Difficulty or Disability please let us know when you apply. You will be offered support in your interview. What’s Involved?

Further Education Teachers prepare, deliver and direct lectures, seminars and tutorials. They prepare, administer and mark examinations, essays and other assignments. They advise students on academic matters and encourage independent research. They also provide pastoral care or guidance to students. They participate in decision making processes regarding curriculum, budgetary, departmental and other matters. They direct the work of postgraduate students. They also undertake research, write articles and books and attend conferences and other meetings.
