Where will this course lead?

This course helps you build confidence and improve your cake decorating skills. Whether for personal enjoyment or starting small-scale projects, it provides a solid foundation in sugar craft techniques

What will I study?

Autumn Term Build confidence in sugar paste by learning to colour and cover cakes smoothly. Master modelling seasonal figures like pumpkins, ghosts, and Santas. Develop skills in creating festive backgrounds and assembling complete cake scenes. Learn to use tools for clean, expressive decoration and make your own fondant. Finish with a themed project integrating all techniques learned.

Winter/Spring Term Advance your sugar modelling and cake scene design skills through Valentine's and Easter themed projects. Learn to create layered cake scenes, silhouette cut-outs, and coordinating treats like cupcakes or cake pops. Complete the term with a full "Spring Party" display showcasing your ability to harmonize multiple decorated elements.

Summer Term Master advanced sugar paste techniques including colouring, smooth fondant covering, and detailed modelling of floral and animal figures like daisies, bees, and flamingos using supports for 3D shaping. Learn to design and assemble balanced cake scenes with layered decorations. Practice making homemade fondant and apply all skills in a personal themed project for a professional finish.

How will this course be delivered?

The course is practical and hands-on. You will work mainly with cake dummies, so you need to bring your own for each project. This allows you to practise covering, modelling, and assembling decorations step-by-step with guidance.

How will I be assessed?

Teacher will be monitoring progress every lesson to help ensure students can achieve. No formal examinations.

What are the entry requirements?

You must be 19+ to join the course and have some basic knowledge of cake decorating. If you are new to cake decorating please enrol on the beginners course. 

What else do I need to know?

The tutor will inform you in the first session about any required tools and equipment and provide a list of suppliers. This course uses cake dummies only.

Important: Tools, food colours, and all materials such as sugar paste, cake boxes, cake drums, and others are not included in the course fee. Students are responsible for bringing their own tools and materials to each class.
