This beginners' course provides a clear and practical introduction to using computers, smartphones, and online tools with confidence. Discover how digital skills can simplify everyday tasks and open up new opportunities, at your own pace and tailored to your interests.

What will I study?

The course will cover:

  • Communicating effectively online: explore digital communication tools like email and collaboration platforms (e.g., Microsoft Teams) to connect with others and share documents seamlessly. You'll learn how to send and receive emails with attachments and utilise chat features for effective communication.
  • Staying safe and secure online: understand important safety measures and best practices to protect your information and privacy while interacting with the internet and using digital services. Create strong passwords and understand privacy settings.
  • Finding and evaluating information online: master effective search techniques to quickly locate reliable information and documents online. You'll also learn to organise and save the information you find for easy access.
  • Working with documents: master the basics of word processing software to create documents for various uses, such as letters or posters. you'll also learn to use a spreadsheet program to enter and organise data, including text, numbers, and simple formulas.

How will this course be delivered?

The course is for 10 weeks - 2-hour lesson each week, based in a classroom supplied with computers.

This course is offered at Blossomfield Campus, Woodlands Campus, Solihull Recruitment and Training Centre, Saxon Court and Elmwood Family Hub

What qualifications will I get?

This is a personal development course.

How will I be assessed?

Informal assessment by the tutor, with evaluation by the student.

What are the entry requirements?

You must be aged 19+

What else do I need to know?

You do not need to own a computer at home, but you may wish to purchase headphones. We can give you advice on this if you need it.

This course will run subject to a minimum class size.

Develop your skills further by continuing onto the Beginners' Part 2 course OR progress onto an accredited Digital Skills course
