T-Level students from Solihull College & University Centre are celebrating outstanding success following the announcement of this year’s results.
The College’s T-Level students achieved a remarkable 92% pass rate, with students on the T-Level in Animal Care & Management achieving a stunning 100% pass rate.
T-Levels are two-year qualifications, equivalent to three A-Levels, designed in partnership with employers to ensure students develop the knowledge and skills needed by industry. Alongside classroom learning, students complete a substantial industry placement of at least 315 hours (around 45 days), giving them valuable real-world experience.
Among those celebrating success is 18-year-old Lucy Harper, who achieved a distinction in Animal Care & Management and has already begun developing her career by launching her own business.
Lucy completed her industry placement with a dog training company and impressed the team so much that she was invited to continue working with them. She is now building her own business focused on working with dogs and house sitting animals.
She comments: “If you want to work in the industry you are passionate about, T-Levels are the way forward! You are thrown into a work placement, and you gain all the skills needed to go into the career you want. I was set targets in my placement, and I was so supported by the trainers. I’m now still working with them, learning on the job and gaining confidence, I want to help as many dogs as I can in the future.”
Rhys Owen has secured a merit for his T-Level in Digital Software Development and is preparing to take the next step in his education by studying computing at Birmingham City University. Having secured work placements with Rolls-Royce during his course, Rhys believes the hands-on experience gained through the T-Level has been invaluable in preparing him for the future.
Rhys comments: “I got my placement with Rolls Royce and then went back for another placement. With the job market being so tough now, the most important part of the T-level is the work experience where you can make connections, and you then know what to expect when you go out to work. It’s invaluable.”
Also celebrating success is 18-year-old Lottie Garfield, who achieved a merit in her Computing T-Level. Following a successful placement with ABP, she was offered a Level 4 apprenticeship and is now looking forward to beginning her career.
Lottie had originally planned to go to university but discovered that an apprenticeship offered the ideal route into employment while allowing her to gain experience and avoid student debt.
Lottie comments: “This placement made me think about my career as I was able to work in different areas of the business. Bosses at ABP approached me after the placement and told me about an apprenticeship. It made me rethink my plans and now I’m so excited about starting! I wouldn’t have had this opportunity without Solihull College & University Centre and the T-Level.”
