Four computing students from Solihull College & University Centre are gearing up to take part in the regional heats of the WorldSkills Cyber Security competition.
WorldSkills’ mission is to embed world-class training standards across the UK to improve the quality of apprenticeships and technical education for the benefit of all young people and business.
The teams have already progressed through the first stage and are now on the next step towards the WorldSkills tournament being held in Japan in 2028. The regional heats of the Digital Support and Security competition and the Cyber Security competition are taking place in Derbyshire tomorrow, with 2 students representing the College in each competition.
Harvey Morse is excited to represent the College in the Cyber Security competition. He comments: “The process so far has been fun as it’s something I really enjoy doing. It’s quite good working as a team as you can break down a big task into a smaller one which makes it more manageable. Having extra eyes on an issue helps a lot! Getting to the finals in Japan would be amazing and I would love to do it!” Harvey is competing alongside fellow students Rhys Small, Arina Khokar, and Ahmed Alrashedy.
Head of School for Computing, Digital and Esports, Mohammed Maher, comments: “Our computing students have demonstrated outstanding achievement by successfully progressing through the initial qualifying stages of the WorldSkills Competition in Cyber Security and Digital Support and Security. Competing against some of the best talent in the country, this accomplishment highlights the high calibre of our students and their ability to represent the college with professionalism, skill, and confidence.
We wish both teams the very best of luck as they take another step forward towards the WorldSkills championships in Japan!
