A T-Level Digital Software Development student has secured a fantastic merit result and is set to begin his degree course at Birmingham City University.
Rhys Owen, 18, has always wanted to work with computers. After finishing school, he was excited to discover the T-Level route as this was primarily based around coursework and included a 315 hour professional work placement.
Rhys secured his T-Level work placement at Rolls Royce, later managing to secure another placement with the prestigious brand. He comments: “With the job market being so tough now, the most important part of the T-level is the work experience where you can make industry connections, and you then know what to expect when you go out to work. It’s invaluable!”
He continues: “I enjoyed my placement and received a proper office environment experience and was given valuable tasks to complete, including working on a software app.”
Alongside a work placement, the T-Level in Digital Software Development focuses heavily on programming and software development and its uses in a variety of sectors. Students will cover areas such as computational thinking, Python programming, business uses of computing, data handling processing and the fundamentals of data science, emerging technologies and networking & cybersecurity.
Rhys is now looking to get into tech animation and coding and would like to work as a video games specialist.
