World Animal Day was celebrated at Solihull College & University Centre’s Blossomfield Campus recently with a special event raising awareness of endangered species.
An Animal Encounter event took place in the campus’s Library, giving students and staff the opportunity to get up close with a variety of animals and insects.
The College’s animal welfare team were on hand throughout the event, helping students and staff safely handle the animals and answering questions about the different species.
Guinea pigs, a leopard tortoise and stick insects were just some of the special visitors involved.
Library Information Assistant Lottie Lee, who organised the event, was delighted with its success. She comments: “I was overjoyed to see how successful the event was. It was fantastic to watch staff and students engage with and learn about the animals. The animal care staff were incredible and played a huge part in the success of the event; their knowledge was astounding. Seeing so many smiles, watching everyone make connections with the animals and sharing in the joy they bring was truly lovely.”
Following the success of the event, it is hoped the animal welfare team will bring animals into the library as part of a future series of events.
