An award-winning Early Years apprentice from Solihull College & University Centre is celebrating after achieving a distinction in his course.
Upon completion of his Level 2 Early Years Practitioner Diploma at the College two years ago, Harry Collins decided to progress to the next level through an apprenticeship. Harry began his Level 3 Early Years Educator apprenticeship in September 2024, through the College and Brookhurst Primary School in Leamington Spa.
Wanting to combine working, earning a wage and study, Harry felt the apprenticeship route would suit him and his learning style. The idea of working full time, having responsibility over children, and working in a school, has been the ideal career starter to becoming a teacher.
Harry has excelled working in reception class and particularly enjoys working with the four- and five-year-olds as their speech and learning develops at school. Harry’s confidence has grown and he feels he is able to fully express himself at work. The variety of the day-to-day work, including different lessons and school trips make each day enjoyable and different.
Harry’s contribution to school life has been recognised by Headteacher Mr Rakesh Gunchala, who commented: “Harry has been outstanding this year. He is a valued member of our staff team and has thrived working with our children in reception. His professionalism, dedication, and hard work has made a positive impact at Brookhurst.
On top of that, Harry has gone over and beyond by contributing to our whole-school music provision, leading assemblies and organising performances and events for our children and families.”
Impressing so much with his dedication and hard work, Harry recently achieved a ‘distinction’ at End Point Assessment and won the ‘Inspirational Adult Learner’ at the College’s inaugural Apprenticeship and Adult Skills Awards.
Harry’s tutor, Kelly Lea comments: “Harry has truly blown us away with his resilience, determination, and commitment to his goals. Throughout his journey, Harry has demonstrated strength, focus, and a growing belief in what he can achieve, overcoming personal challenges along the way.
This has been reflected in his outstanding success, in which he was also recognised with a special mention from the EPA provider, highlighting the quality of his performance and the impression he made. Harry is a real inspiration to others, a fantastic ambassador for apprenticeships, and a true example of how resilience and hard work can transform a future.”
Harry is now aiming to begin a primary education teaching degree in September.
