Construction & the Built Environment students from Solihull College & University Centre had the honour of welcoming Helen Lewis, Managing Director of Barratt Redrow for a talk about careers in the home building sector this week.
Barratt Redrow are very supportive of the College’s provision and not only offer talks and placement opportunities for students, but also workshops, site tours and are part of the College’s Construction & the Built Environment Employer Board with an upcoming meeting scheduled next month.
This year, Barratt Redrow have taken on two T-Level students on placement, James Manners and James Kirk, who have excelled in the workplace environment, learning both requirements of the job and vital skills such as communicating with industry professionals.

This week’s event was organised by placement co-ordinator Rebecca Vasey and Head of Construction and the Built Environment, Mandy Bahra to showcase ‘Women into Construction’ for International Women’s Day. Helen provided an insightful glimpse into the journey of her career and working as a woman in a male dominated industry.

As part of the talk, Barratt Redrow showcased bespoke videos which included on site tours, roles within the workplace and interview techniques for apprentices and T-Level students.
The event also coincided with National Careers Week, which provided students with a valuable insight into the different careers available within one organisation.
