Fashion students showcase extraordinary work

19th June 2025

Fashion students from Solihull College & University Centre have displayed their remarkable creations as part of the College’s end of year Creative Arts Exhibition.

The exhibition features work from across the whole department. Mariea Taiba is moving on to a degree in Fashion Business & Promotion at Birmingham City University. Mariea’s project is influenced by 1930s culture and music of the time, whilst also emphasising the importance of sustainability with the re-use of fabrics.

Tiffany Kan has continually achieved distinction grades throughout the 2 years of the course and, despite English being her second language, has submitted an excellent project. The standard of her work is exceptional and would not look out of place at a university. Tiffany will be pursuing study at university after a gap year. Her project research centres around feminism.

Ellie Bessant progressed from Level 2 Art to the Level 3 Fashion course. She will be pursuing her ambitions at Coventry University by studying a BA Fashion degree. The concept for her project was to create a dress to represent the theme of florals from the 1950s.

Visual Arts Lecturer, Debbie Lyons, is delighted with the students work. She comments:The Fashion and Textiles team are extremely proud of the students who have demonstrated their passion for Fashion and showcased their creative talents in their own unique individual ways in their Final Personal Project. They have applied technical and creative skills across starting points and influences that include Decades, Feminism, the 1950s, Heavy Metal, and 1930s architecture and culture. We wish them every success for the future.”
