Foundation Learning students from Solihull College & University Centre’s Woodlands Campus recently organised a fun packed fundraising event to raise money for Make A Wish UK.
Students collected donations to soak lecturers in stocks as well as offering a variety of other games and stalls.

Prior to the event, students discussed in class which charity they wanted to fundraise for. Lecturer Phil Mann says the students were very thorough in their approach: “The group researched, planned and carried out the event from start to finish and went well out of their comfort zone in communicating with staff members and students to make it a success. It’s so important to foster a voluntary, community and charitable spirit in young people whilst developing vital transferable employability skills.”
Phil was delighted the students received so much support. He continues: “I’d just like to especially thank the following people for their contributions to making it a success: Laura Bennett and Dave Scarsbrook for making and painting the Stocks, Tim Lloyd and Adam Bury- Everson for helping on the day, Maurice Choi for his help before and during the event with the VR, Georgina Cutler for being a great sport and getting soaked (without a change of clothes), Shaz Khan for (un)kindly donating so students could have a go – I think he loved it a bit too much…. and most importantly, the effort of Woodlands Foundation Group Three.”
Make A Wish UK is part of a global movement that grants life-changing wishes for children who have a critical illness. It can be anything from a bedroom revamp to feeding tigers!
