College Honour LGBT+ History Month

16th March 2026

Solihull College & University Centre and Stratford-upon-Avon College recently marked LGBTQ+ History Month by hosting a range of activities for students to learn more about LGBTQ+ history and celebrate the College Community.

The College’s Student Enrichment team organised and ran several activities that focused on this year’s theme of ‘Science and Innovation’ across all three of college campuses.

Student Voice Officer, Sasha Georgieva, who organised these events, spoke about the importance of the celebration: “LGBTQ+ History Month is an opportunity to recognise the stories, struggles, and achievements that have shaped today’s more inclusive society. Our event created a space for learning, reflection, and celebration, reminding us that visibility and understanding are key to building a community where everyone feels they belong.”

At the College’s Woodlands Campus, students used the new 360 immersive room where they explored an interactive timeline that explored key LGBTQ+ figures within Science and Innovation.

At Stratford’s campus, LGBTQ+ Officer, Aoibha Wellings, ran a colourful light painting photography activity.

Blossomfield students had a go at science experiments in the science labs that explored colour.

Sasha continued: “The theme this year being Science and Innovation sparked an idea to collaborate with our science department to create a cool and exclusive Science Experiment workshop, and inspired various other activities across our campuses. This event truly was all thanks to the students who helped us put it together, and their brilliant initiative and dedication to LGBT+ History Month!

To mark the end of LGBTQ+ History month, students also attended ‘Putting the Pride in the West Midlands’ event at Cadbury College. The event, organised through Colleges West Midlands, brought together staff and students from local colleges to hear from a range of guest speakers. LGBTQ+ officer Aoibha Wellings (Stratford Campus) represented students on a panel discussing LGBTQ+ inclusion within colleges.
