Hairdressing students from Solihull College & University Centre recently welcomed their friends and family to the College’s Woodlands Campus for the inaugural ‘Beyond the Chair’ red carpet event.
Students were tasked with creating a head-to-toe look inspired by different themes. They had to research and highlight recognisable features of their chosen theme to present unique looks.
Themes ranged from the 80s to TV shows, films, bridal styles and cakes. The event provided a fantastic opportunity for students to showcase their creativity, as they were challenged not only to create a hairstyle but also to coordinate make-up and clothing to complete the overall look.

Students and their models got stuck into the challenge as they walked down the red carpet, posing and walking in character. Head of School, Ben Dodd, commented: The students’ work demonstrated just how far they have progressed in terms of confidence and technical skill. I am proud of all the hard work and effort that was put into creating this wonderful event.
Events like this allow students to work beyond the syllabus and have more creative freedom which helps to increase their confidence and build their wider skillset.
