A podcast bootcamp offered by Solihull College & University Centre has resulted in an audio journey through the vibrant cultural landscape of the West Midlands.

Each episode pulls back the curtain on the region’s most compelling creative voices – the amazing people shaping the future of the West Midlands creative powerhouse.

Mentored by renowned Oral History Consultant and Audio Producer, Dr Siobhán Stevenson, the 12-week course offered students the opportunity to work on a live brief; gaining a combination of theoretical, research, audio production, and practical skills, thanks to inspiring guest speakers, interviewees, and in-house audio equipment and podcast facilities.

Siobhan says, ““It’s been a privilege to mentor such a passionate and talented group of emerging audio storytellers. This podcast is a brilliant example of what happens when creative energy, community voices, and technical skills come together. It’s a true celebration of the West Midlands’ cultural vibrancy”

Bootcamp manager Sophie Jolly says, “Training comes to life when learning meets real-world impact. This podcast bootcamp has been a testament to creativity in action—where skills aren’t just taught, but applied with purpose, celebrating the talent and ventures that make our region shine.”

Podcast student Debbie Hartill who works in marketing says, “I’ve really enjoyed being part of the Podcast course. The opportunity to learn from talented audio producers working in the industry has been really inspiring. We have gained skills from theoretical practices to hands-on experience. It’s been a pleasure working alongside fellow students under Siobhán’s guidance; helping to shine a light on the creative talent, heritage crafts, and cultural activities we have here in the West Midlands region.”

The podcast, Creativity and Culture West Midlands is out now and you can find it here.
