At Solihull College & University Centre’s ‘Try it’ Open Events, school leavers will experience a practical approach to choosing the right course for them. Over forty subject areas will be offering ‘have a go’ activities to young people, along with the chance to have a chat with teaching staff about the options available. Subject areas attending will include aerospace engineering, photography, retail, land management, motor vehicle engineering and our brand new course – circus arts! Students can also find out about the College’s apprenticeship programmes.
Beth Selwood, Vice Principal comments: “With so many choices available, it’s hoped these events will inspire and encourage those who may not be sure of their next step. Prospective students will have the opportunity to explore the fantastic facilities available to our students as well as get a real feel for what our courses involve”.
In addition, the College will be holding open events for our university level courses alongside the school leaver events. Working in partnership with a number of leading universities including Oxford Brookes University, Birmingham City University, Newman University and the University of Warwick, the College delivers a range of higher education qualifications. These include HNC/HNDs, foundation, top-up, bachelor’s and master’s degrees. The partner universities will also be in attendance to speak to students about how they link with the college in offering these qualifications.
Sue McGregor, Dean of Higher Education comments “The university-level open events are aimed at students who are coming to the end of their time at college/sixth form, as well as adults who would like to get back in to education as a means of career change or progression. We offer students the opportunity to earn a top degree locally, without the extra accommodation costs associated with moving away to university”.
Visitors are advised to check the College website for more details as some subjects are specific to either campus.
The College’s School Leaver & University Level Open Events will be taking place at Blossomfield Campus on Saturday 28th November 2015, 10am-2pm and Woodlands Campus on Wednesday 2nd December, 6-8pm.
