College Finance for Futures team

6th November 2026

The finance team at Solihull College & University Centre recently held a carbon neutral fundraising event to raise money for the National Wildflower Centre – part of the Eden Project.

With sustainability high on the College’s agenda, the event was open to all staff and featured activities including a recycled gift tombola, nature photo competition, cake sale, plus ideas on how to reduce waste and recycle.

The event was the brainchild of the finance team led by Director of Finance Gita Gorman. Gita tasked the staff to lead a carbon neutralisation project, with the added benefit of the preparation being a great team building project.

The team were delighted with the event’s success and enjoyed the team building element that came with the preparation. Gita comments: “The Finance for Futures team worked hard to support a worthwhile environmental cause and were delighted to raise £310 for the National Wildflower Centre. It was great to see the team come together for a team building activity sharing ideas. We were overwhelmed by the generous donations from across the College for our recycled tombola, which went down really well.”

Gita continued: “The College’s catering team got on board by donating prizes and creating bespoke cupcakes for us to sell too, so a big thank you to them for getting involved. We really appreciate everyone who supported this positive event and are delighted with its success. A fantastic effort for a great cause – now, onto the next one!”

The money will go towards the National Wildflower Centre, part of the Eden Project, to focus on carbon neutrality. It looks at nationwide conservation, habitat creation and community outreach to reverse the 97% loss of British wildflower meadows since the 1930s.
