Two Travel & Tourism students from Solihull College & University Centre and Stratford-upon-Avon College are celebrating the start of exciting new careers after securing roles at Birmingham Airport.
Beth Edwards, 18, from Coleshill and Elizabeth Dolman, 18 from Warwick, have successfully completed their Level 3 Travel & Tourism qualification and have now been appointed as Customer Service Agents at Birmingham Airport with Swissport.
Beth began on the Level 2 Cabin Crew & Aviation course at Solihull and on completion progressed to the Level 3 Travel & Tourism qualification. She has benefitted in both personal and professional growth during her time on the course. She comments: “My favourite aspect of the course has been meeting new friends and gaining new knowledge; especially information about my new job role.”
Beth is excited to begin her new job and is passionate about pursing this career, with the ultimate aim to make her way into a Cabin Crew role and further up in the travel industry.
Elizabeth has always had a passion for aviation, and when she met the tutors at Stratford-upon-Avon College, she knew studying Travel & Tourism was the right direction for her: “Upon visiting the College I saw the passion the tutors had for their subject and felt it was a great way for me to combine passion and studies rather than half-heartedly taking A-levels, and I couldn’t be happier with my decision.”
Elizabeth loved her course: “I love the flexibility and independence college allows me. Especially with my course greatly encouraging hands-on work experience, it really allowed me to take my skills and knowledge from college and build as a person in confidence and employability. I loved how my course was interactive and allowed me to meet various people and learn things about the world – very inspiring.”
When applying and interviewing for her new job, Elizabeth felt prepared due to the support from college: “For my unit at the time we were looking at how formal interviews are conducted for roles which were relevant to our course. Luckily for me we had recently done roleplays in interviews for the exact role I was applying for. This allowed me to go into the interview feeling prepared and confident, knowing exactly what was expected. I also found the in-depth knowledge and experience from my tutors an excellent way for me to understand all aspects of the industry.”
Elizabeth is also excited about her new start: “I am greatly excited as I take a massive step into my aviation career. With the skills and knowledge I have gained from my course, I feel excited and ready to take on this new adventure in an industry I am so passionate for.”
She hopes to progress in the industry, with her eye set on a job as an Aircraft Dispatcher.
