Travel students enjoy airport insight

14th May 2026

Travel & Tourism students from Solihull College & University Centre have visited Birmingham Airport to enhance their learning through observation of a live travel industry environment.

Level 2 students took part in the flight school, which involved group research and the completion of their Unit 2 travel and tourism industry assignment.

The students were also granted access to see the workings of airline check-in desks and observe the arrival of an Emirates Airbus A380 from Dubai.

Tutor, Karin Kostialova, says it’s important to link up with local employers, such as Birmingham Airport. She comments: “We regularly have study trips for travel and tourism students as it’s an important part of their learning journey. We often have guest speakers from local travel agents come into college too. The students were very excited to be in the real travel environment, and it gave them a great insight into future careers at the airport.”

Karin also emphasises how trips like this help students with their progression up to the next level of their study. She adds: Learning through first-hand experience is priceless and we are pleased to see our Level 2 Travel students gearing up for their next step which is either the Level 3 Travel & Tourism course, or the Level 3 Cabin Crew/Aviation course starting in September.
