This course is ideal for non native speakers in the UK who want to develop English for everyday use. After Entry Levels 1, 2 & 3 this can lead to Level 1. It helps you to find a job or continue studying.
This is a Skills for Life course. It will develop English Speaking and Listening, Reading and Writing skills. You will develop English language and practise these skills in class. Some topics you will study are:
- Travel
- Work
- Study
- Shopping
- Health
In a classroom with students of different nationalities by a fully qualified ESOL tutor.
Functional Skills qualification in English at Entry 1
You will take an assessment in Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening. The assessment will take place in the classroom with your teacher.

You will be asked to attend an interview and complete a short test.
After your interview and test you will be placed in the best class for you.
Bring pens and paper to class. Your teacher will give you work in class and for homework. Solihull College offers full time and part time courses for businesses and residents in Birmingham, Walsall, Wolverhampton, Coventry Warwickshire and the whole of the West Midlands.
This course will run subject to a minimum class size.

You can move to the next ESOL level. After Entry 3 you could study many subjects in college or do an IELTS course for University. This will also help to prepare for work.
