Where will this course lead?

This course provides a clear pathway into teaching within the Further Education (FE) and Lifelong Learning sectors. It prepares skilled trades professionals to take their first step into teaching learners aged 16 and above. Successful completion positions you to progress onto accredited teaching qualifications, paid teaching roles, or training roles within colleges, training providers, and apprenticeships.

What will I study?

You will explore the foundational skills needed to become an effective educator in FE, including:

  • How to plan and deliver inclusive and engaging lessons
  • Understanding different learning styles and needs
  • Classroom management and creating a positive learning environment
  • Supporting learners with special educational needs
  • Using digital tools such as Nearpod, Teachermatic, and Microsoft applications
  • Safeguarding responsibilities and professional conduct
  • Observing live teaching sessions
  • Planning and delivering your own micro-teach session

How will this course be delivered?

This is an 8-week introductory programme delivered through a blend of:

  • Interactive classroom workshops
  • Practical activities
  • Group work
  • Digital learning tools
  • Observations and teaching practice

The course is designed specifically for individuals with little or no previous teaching experience.

What qualifications will I get?

You'll receive a Certificate of Completion and support with CV building and job applications.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment is through practical activities, group projects, and presentations. There are no formal exams.

How do I get a place on the course?

You'll need to attend an informal interview to discuss:

  • Your interest in teaching
  • Your trade experience
  • Your suitability for the programme

What are the entry requirements?

You'll need:

· A good standard of English and maths

· A trade skill or area of professional expertise you are passionate about sharing

· Enthusiasm for supporting others and developing your teaching abilities

What else do I need to know?

This course is designed for tradespeople interested in transitioning into education - no teaching experience is required.

You'll have opportunities to build confidence in public speaking, leadership, and lesson delivery.

You will receive guidance on career options within FE and how to move into full-time or part-time teaching roles.

What can I do after this course?

You can progress to accredited teaching qualifications such as:

  • Level 4 Certificate in Teaching and Learning
  • Level 5 Certificate in Education (Cert Ed) / PGCE
  • Teaching or training apprenticeships
