Where will this course lead?

This course is ideal for developing your sewing skills. It will cover all aspects of garment making from selecting a pattern to the finishing touches. These skills may help you towards a career in the field of fashion.

 

What will I study?

Blossomfield

This course is designed to provide students with comprehensive skills in sewing and garment construction. Students will progress from basic sewing techniques to advanced garment construction methods.

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

- Operate a sewing machine proficiently

- Understand fabric types and their properties

- Read and interpret sewing patterns

- Construct various garments from start to finish

- Apply advanced sewing techniques and finishes

Woodlands

In the first three sessions you will learn all the essentials from useful tools, how to use different presser feet for different sewing techniques to understanding a commercial pattern. There will be some sewing challenges to test your skills, exploring different types of fabrics and what they are used for. From week 4 you will start your individual projects where you will have to source your own pattern, fabric, and notions to start manufacturing your garment.

If you are joining for the whole year each term you will take on different challenges from easy to difficult. Your garment project will be tailored to your skills, and you will be taken on more advanced projects each term to up your skills level.

How will this course be delivered?

This is a practical course and is designed so that students are enabled to work on individual projects. Your tutor will guide you every step of the way. 

What qualifications will I get?

No formal qualifications 

How will I be assessed?

Students will be assessed based on their weekly projects, term-end projects, Emphasis will be placed on technique, creativity, and progress throughout the course.

What are the entry requirements?

You must be 19+ to attend this course 

What else do I need to know?

Please bring your basic sewing tools with you: pins, scissors (fabric and paper), tape measure, ruler/pattern master, etc - there are spares in class if haven't got all the tools required.

Limited amount of sewing machines are also available to use but if you wish to bring your own please do so.

Scrap fabrics are provided for practice techniques only, but when making your final garment you will need to purchase your own.
