Where will this course lead?

The qualification is designed to offer entry to employment; however, learners can also progress onto the following qualifications: 

  • Active IQ Level 2 Technical Specialist in Instructing Circuit Training (Award). 
  • Active IQ Level 2 Technical Specialist in Instructing Studio Cycling (Award). 
  • Active IQ Level 2 Technical Specialist in Instructing Kettlebell Training (Award). 
  • Active IQ Level 3 Technical Occupational Entry in Personal Training (Diploma). 
  • Active IQ Level 3 Technical Specialist in Sports Massage Therapy (Diploma). 
  • Apprenticeship in Personal Training.

What will I study?

During the qualification learners will cover the following: 

  • Anatomy and physiology for exercise  
  • Principles of fitness training  
  • Principles of nutrition and lifestyle  
  • Health and safety in a fitness environment 
  • Professionalism and customer care 
  • Conducting client consultations  
  • Planning and delivering fitness sessions  
  • Leisure team operations

How will this course be delivered?

18-week blended learning course. You will have to attend college one day per week in person, plus there will be additional self-study. The day will be confirmed at interview stage.

What qualifications will I get?

Active IQ Level 2 Technical Occupational Entry in Fitness Coaching (Certificate) Qualification accreditation number: 610/4546/9 

How will I be assessed?

  • Coursework/Project. 
  • Multiple Choice Examination. 
  • Portfolio of Evidence. 
  • Practical Demonstration/Assignment. 

How do I get a place on the course?

Complete application form. Interview with course tutor and initial assessment.

What are the entry requirements?

Learners must be 19+ years old.   

Some experience of gym-based exercises, including free weights, is highly recommended. 

The course requires physical exertion, and individual participation is essential, therefore a degree of physical fitness is necessary.  

There is an element of communication (discussing, presenting, reading and writing) involved and learners should have basic skills in communication pitched at level 2. 

What else do I need to know?

Please note this course is blended which means you will be expected to be able to self-study, revise and complete certain aspects of the course independently.  

On Completion of this course, you will receive a digital certificate

What can I do after this course?

Progress onto a Level 3 course in Personal Training or gain employment in the fitness industry as a gym/fitness instructor.
