Where will this course lead?

This course is designed to help learners feel more confident when having conversations in English, and improve their English speaking, listening, and reading skills in a friendly and supportive environment. It can help build confidence when communicating in everyday situations and may support progression onto other English, ESOL or community learning courses.

What will I study?

This course provides an opportunity to develop your English language skills through conversation and group discussion activities. You will practise speaking and listening in a relaxed setting while exploring a range of texts, stories and topics designed to improve vocabulary, pronunciation, fluency, and reading comprehension.

Learners will have the opportunity to share ideas, discuss different viewpoints, and develop confidence in using English in everyday situations. The course is suitable for adults who would like additional practice and support with communication skills.

How will this course be delivered?

This course is delivered through tutor-led group sessions that encourage participation, discussion, and collaborative learning. Activities may include guided reading, conversation practice, small group work, and interactive exercises designed to improve confidence and communication skills. Sessions are held term time and usually last up to two hours.

What qualifications will I get?

This is a community learning course and does not lead to a formal qualification. However, learners will develop valuable English language, communication and reading skills that can be applied in everyday life and support further learning opportunities.

How will I be assessed?

There are no formal examinations on this course. Progress will be monitored through participation in activities, group discussions, and ongoing tutor feedback.

What are the entry requirements?

Learners must be aged 19 or over.

This course provides a welcoming and supportive environment where learners can practise their English without the pressure of formal assessments. It is designed to encourage participation, improve confidence and help learners develop practical communication skills that can be used in everyday life.

After completing this course, you may wish to progress onto other English, ESOL, literacy or community learning programmes offered by the College. The confidence and skills gained can also support employment, volunteering, further study, and greater participation in community activities.
