LEARNING AND SKILLS TEACHER APPRENTICESHIP Study Mode: Part Time   |    Course Level: Level 5

Where will this course lead?

After completing a Level 5 Learning and Skills Teacher (LST) apprenticeship, you can progress your career in teaching and education, pursue Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) status, or advance into higher education or specialised training.

What will I study?

Whilst completing the LST Apprenticeship, you will study seven modules covering a wide range of teaching and learning subjects;

• Getting into teaching: systems and processes
• How learners learn: learning theory, student profiles, what do students 'look like', lifelong learning
• Classroom management: building relationships and behaviours
• Inclusive practice, student support wraparound - safeguarding, behaviours and relationships, coaching, mentoring, pastoral
• Assessment, feedback, marking
• Embedding digital skills and sustainability in wider professional practice
• Professional identity, CPD and professional updating.

How will this course be delivered?

The apprenticeship is a practically applied and occupationally relevant qualification.

Apprenticeships are made up of KSBs which are achieved during the 466 'off the job' hours.

•   Knowledge is met by the classroom based delivery
•   Skills and behaviours are developed and applied in the workplace

Classroom based delivery is:

Monday mornings 30 wks from 21st September (face2face at Blossomfield campus) with three additional workshop days during the programme.      

The remaining 'off the job' hours are completed in the workplace with activities such as;

observing experienced practitioners, planning and developing new content and practice, academic reading and research, being mentored, shadowing assessment and awarding body processes etc.

Apprentices will be enrolled for a 13 month period to complete their 466 hours, with a further 3 months for their EPA.                                                                               

What qualifications will I get?

Upon successful completion of the end point assessment the apprentice will be awarded the level 5 Learning and Skills Teacher Apprenticeship.

How will I be assessed?

Progress and development will be assessed at regular stages throughout the apprenticeship

Formative: Bi-monthly review meetings with you, your manager and our apprenticeship review coach

Summative: End Point Assessment (EPA) on completion of the programme/466 hours

• Lesson observation
• Professional dialogue
• Portfolio of evidence (built during the course) to inform a professional discussion

What are the entry requirements?

The apprenticeship is a practically applied and occupationally relevant qualification, therefore you need to be in a role where you can apply the learning 'hands on.'

This means you must already be employed and remain in a teaching role for the duration of the programme.

Whilst you may have some teaching experience, the apprenticeship must be giving you 'significant new learning.' Therefore, if you have significant previous teaching experience you would not be eligible for the apprenticeship.
