An exciting collaboration has been launched between Solihull College & University Centre and The Vet Clinic at Birmingham Dogs Home.
The Vet Clinic, which caters for all small animals, is now officially an RCVS Approved Training Practice affiliated with the College. This means the next generation of student veterinary nurses will have more access to first-class hands-on training.
Students will develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours to become fully qualified Veterinary Nurses. Students learn on the job, with one day a week of study at the College.

Veterinary Nursing programme lead, Rebecca Phipps, commented: “Building on our proud relationship with Birmingham Dogs Home, we’re delighted to now support the training of their future student Veterinary Nurses within the Vet Clinic. This partnership offers an exceptional environment where learners will gain invaluable experience, thrive, and pursue their dreams. Far too many aspiring vet nurses face barriers to entry due to limited placements. Now, with The Vet Clinic on board, we’re creating more pathways for students to achieve their dreams, all while strengthening support for animals in need.”
Head of School for Animal, Equine and Veterinary Nursing, Claire Powell, says the students and dogs home will both benefit: “I am really pleased to extend our work with Birmingham Dogs Home to include being a training practice for veterinary nurses. For us it is a perfect fit – the students get to train in a fabulous veterinary clinic which treats all small animals, where every penny of profit goes back into supporting the wonderful work that Birmingham Dogs Home does every day”.
Practice Manager at the Vet Clinic Linsey Yeomans is delighted. “We’re proud to work alongside Solihull College & University Centre supporting the next generation of veterinary nursing professionals, sharing a passion for animal health, education and lifelong learning.”
