Solihull College & University Centre is strengthening its role in supporting the health and social care sector through a new partnership focused on staff development and future recruitment.
By working closely with family-run homecare provider, Care2Home Ltd, the College is helping to enhance workforce skills and create clear pathways into employment, further extending its impact within the local community.
Care2Home Ltd is a family-run business dedicated to providing expert homecare to vulnerable individuals in the comfort and familiarity of their own homes. Since its establishment in 2016, the company has grown steadily year on year, driven by its commitment to delivering high-quality, person-centred care.
At the heart of the organisation is Registered Care Manager and Director Manjit Kaur, who brings more than 25 years of experience in the care sector. With the support of fellow Directors, including her sons Sarg, Arjan, and Anil, Care2Home has developed into a trusted and respected provider across the Birmingham area.
Now, Care2Home is looking ahead with an exciting new partnership with the College. Plans include upskilling existing staff to further enhance the quality of care, as well as supporting recruitment through ‘Into Employment’ programmes. Through this initiative, learners will receive training at College before progressing to work experience and guaranteed interviews, helping to bring new talent into the sector.
Care2Home is enthusiastic about this partnership and the opportunities it will create for both its workforce and the communities it serves. They commented: “Care2Home Ltd is proud to be working in partnership with the College. We highly value the work the College does and feel fully supported in helping our business grow and develop in a variety of ways. We look forward to continuing this successful partnership and are excited about the opportunities the future holds.”
The health and social care sector in the local area is facing a growing skills gap, with demand for qualified and compassionate care staff continuing to outpace supply. An ageing population, increasing complexity of care needs, and challenges in attracting and retaining workers have all contributed to this shortage. As a result, employers are finding it harder to recruit suitably trained individuals, highlighting the need for targeted training, upskilling, and clear pathways into the sector to build a sustainable workforce for the future.
Shamira Bolia, Sector Skills Lead for Care and Life Sciences, comments: “As part of the Adult Skills Team, we are proud to be working in partnership with Care2Home Ltd to support the ongoing development of their workforce. Through this collaboration, we will be delivering tailored upskilling opportunities to enhance the skills and confidence of their existing staff.
Alongside this, we will support “Into Employment” pathways, helping individuals gain the knowledge, qualifications, and practical experience needed to enter the care sector with Care2Home. This partnership demonstrates our shared commitment to creating meaningful opportunities and strengthening the local care workforce.”
