What will I study?

If you are looking to brush up on important skills to support the manufacture of your garments, this workshop will provide you with an insight into some of the most common techniques used.

Throughout the workshop, you will first be shown demonstrations, along with useful tips and tricks on how to carry out each technique. You will then have the opportunity to practise these techniques yourself.

All items we work on will be pre-cut for you to sew, as there will be only a limited amount of time available for each item.

Some of the techniques you will be learning include:

  • Easing in a sleeve

  • Sewing a dart

  • Inserting an invisible zip

  • Inserting an exposed zip

  • Sewing curves

  • Making buttonholes

  • Handling bulky seams and sewing narrow hems

Please bring the following:

  • Pins

  • Tape measure

  • Fabric scissors

  • Sewing machine (please bring your own if you have one, as we only have a limited number available in class)
