This course is a top-up programme designed to enable students from Foundation Degrees in Mechanical Engineering to obtain a BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering Design (Oxford Brookes). It was developed to provide a natural level 6 progression route for students studying the Foundation Degree in Mechanical Engineering at Solihull College & University Centre. This programme is designed to support students in their application for Incorporated Engineer.
The principal aim of this course is to provide for wider access for practising Engineers to undergraduate studies and education in Mechanical Engineering. Learners who have the necessary range of skills, knowledge and experience can underpin and establish a base to successfully progress careers as professional Engineers in the industry. A distinguishing feature of this course is its practical and applied mechanical emphasis, which it derives from local industries and the expertise of the staff. Graduates of the course should be able to work effectively in industry as part of design, development, or research teams with the skills necessary to turn concepts into engineering solutions.
The programme you will study has the following level 6 modules which are all mandatory:
· Engineering Project (Double)
· Management, Ethics, Energy & Sustainability (Double)
· Advanced CAD/CAM
· Design of Machines
· Sensors & Data Logging
· Advanced Control
We regularly review our course content, to make it relevant and current for the benefit of our students. For these reasons, course modules may be updated, please contact us for the latest information.
The programme consists of lectures, seminars, project work, and directed activities to promote independent learning along with workshops, and tutorials. Work-based learning is also an important part of the programme and will be linked in with core modules.
The programme is designed for part time attendance 1 day per week (Part Time) over 1.5 years for employed learners.
There is the possibility of alternative attendance modes if there are sufficient applicants to make the course viable.
Please note that the fees will be calculated based on the number of modules studied each year.
On successful completion of all the modules the learner will have 120 credits at level 6 and will be awarded a BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering Design from Oxford Brookes University.
A variety of methods of assessment will be used within the programme, including coursework, assignments, examinations, experimental reports, and presentations. Most modules consist of more than one method of assessment.
